Amvic Pacific, Inc. is a distribution company providing products and services to enable building ultra-energy efficient homes.     The story began for us in the 80’s when meteorologist, Bill Juhl became obsessed with the physics of building science.  After moving from Alaska to California he was stunned by the costs of heating and cooling in a then code-compliant California custom home.   The journey took us to building the first Amvic ICF house on the west coast, and it became our living test platform.  As they say, we put our money where our mouth is.  And we found that the stories were all true.   

Having the benefit now of being involved in well over 100 custom home projects.... our level of experience is different from those who live in the construction process daily. While we do have a great deal of hands-on experience,  it is our ‘hands off’ experience that has proven most valuable in developing a deep well of building knowledge and resources.  Our average working day brings us face-up with would-be homeowners, architects, designers, drafters, engineers, owner-builders, experienced ICF contractors, first timers, vendors, manufacturers, consultants, planners, developers, code enforcement officials, trucking companies, and building departments.  From each we’ve learned much and in turn we see our role as being a translator back to our customers.

 The very cool thing about building today is that for a very little bit more you can have so much more.  It frankly is mind boggling!  Good choices are priced about the same as the not so good.  You have the chance to grab the gold ring.   You can design and build to the highest standard of  durability, environmental sensitivity, long term economy, quiet and safety for your family. 

In the coming decade, the practice of building wood frame cavity walls, “stick framing” will move toward becoming obsolete in most of the United States.   Increasing energy codes will set standards that wood frame construction will not be able to  meet.   The houses of the future will be highly insulated, very air tight, and will have high thermal mass.  That is in fact the definition of insulating concrete forms.
